    Black Friday: Fijian Language Week Display (Translations of 1800’s from Sir George Grey Special Collection)

     

     

    Browse through Fijian translations and images (1800s – 1900s) from the Fijian archives of the heritage collections on Black Friday, 13 October, to coincide with Vaka-Itaukei ni vanua o Viti / Fiji Language Week.

     

     

    This event will showcase the Fijian/Pacific manuscripts, articles, images, letters and written documents that we have available at Research Central.

     

     

    This event will take place on the new performing arts space on the ground floor of the Central City Library.  It will be hosted by Daren Kamali, Senior Pacific Curator of Auckland Libraries and Dr. Tarisi Vunidilo of the Auckland War Memorial Museum and University of Auckland.

     

     

    Other activities will include:

     

     

    Meke (Fijian and Rotuman dance)
    Laga Sere (Fijian songs)
    Sere Kali (Poetry reading)
    Tukutuku ni Ragone (Fijian children’s book launch story telling)
    Kakana (Finger food).
    Vinaka vaka levu (Thank you very much) and hope to see you all on 13 Okotova (October)!
