Jenny Doole-Leo Charity Art Auction

We are family: Jenny, Sina, Iosefa and Luisa

Marlborough artist Jenny Doole-Leo, wife of Iosefa Leo (sculptor and longstanding member of Tautai), sadly passed away recently. In honor and celebration of her memory an online auction has been set up by friends to raise money for the Leo Tertiary Education Fund. A fund to provide financial support for the tertiary
education of Sina and Luisa, daughters of Jenny and Iosefa.

Contributing artist of works to be sold include Iosefa Leo, painter JS Parker and sculptor Llew Summers to name a few.

The auction will run until noon on Friday August 1, 2008.

This is the 9th year of the Waikato Society of Arts, New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award. The first (and only) prize is $15,000. The judge for 2009 will be Dr Robin Woodward from The University of Auckland.

The Prize is $5,000 with two Merit Awards of $1,000 each. This year’s selector and judge is Professor Elizabeth Grierson.

Fresh Horizons found itself in Hamilton this month held at the School of Media Arts, Waikato Institute of Technology, (Wintec), Hamilton, New Zealand.

The schools involved were Hamilton Girls, Fraser High, Fair Field, Hamilton Boys High, Sacred Heart Girls College, Melville High, Church College of NZ and also Artmakers, a Hamilton based community arts trust.

The theme was URBAN SAVAGE. The workshops taught were Screen Printing, Stenciling and Mixed Media.

The artist tutors involved were Leafa Wilson ( Hamilton based artist/curator), Siliga Setoga (Auckland based Screenprint artist/Graphic Designer) and Teuila Fatupaito (Hamilton based artist/photographer and Art Educator). The Hamilton co-ordinator was Donny Tonumaipe’a and assitant tutor Nastashia Simeona (a past attendee of Waikato Fresh Horizon’s workshop and now a student at Whitecliffe College of Art & Design in Auckland.)
