Missionary Positions: An Illustrated Story of American Samoa
A solo exhibition by Dan Taulapapa McMullin

August 8th-30th, Fresh Gallery Otara

Opening: 6-8pm, Thursday 7 August
Opening Night performance by Fineesha

Well-known for profiling local Manukau artists and grass roots collaborative projects,
Fresh Gallery Otara will have a special international Pacific art exhibition on show. The exhibition, Missionary Positions: An Illustrated Story of American Samoa, is by California-based Samoan painter, poet and film-maker, Dan Taulapapa McMullin.

McMullin’s work is known for being strongly narrative and historically informed, with his paintings linking in closely to his writing and film-making practices. The concepts in his artwork draw on Samoan cultural tradition, history and the impacts of colonisation and fa’afafine experiences. His painting style is beautiful and whimsical, often depicting dreamscapes or moments of human thoughtfulness.
An award-winning artist in the United States, this new site-specific body of work will feature paintings, multi media works and installation.
