Geoff Wilson Gallery
NorthTec’s Geoff Wilson Gallery will be buzzing this week, with three exhibitions opening tomorrow, and a community project under way.
Collectively known as Marks on Paper, the initiative allows visitors to the gallery to immerse themselves in drawn imagery, and join in by making their own marks on a massive drawing as part of a community project, Taking a Line for a Walk, led by artist, Linda Cook.
At the same time, there will be three simultaneous exhibitions in different areas of the gallery, all featuring drawing as the main art form.
DRAW exhibits the work of six well-known, contemporary New Zealand artists who all use drawing as their primary medium. Works by Rowan Gardiner, Penny Howard, Anneke Muijlwijk, James Ormsby, Cathy Tuato’o Ross and Lorene Taurerewa will be on show in the main part of the gallery.
Running concurrently in the Research Room Gallery will be Repartee, a collaborative exhibition by local artists, Lisa Clunie and Mike Lyon.
Also at the gallery will be a show called Collections – a small selection of precious works from the Whangarei Art Museum collection.
Marks on Paper opens tomorrow (Tuesday, 26 September) from 3.30 to 5.30pm, and runs until Thursday, 26 October. Taking a Line for a Walk will also start on opening night.
Gallery opening hours are Wednesdays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm. There is parking for visitors outside the Geoff Wilson Gallery, which is accessed via Gate 3 of the NorthTec campus on Raumanga Valley Road.
