    Oceans made from Sand

‘Oceans made from Sand showcases four Pacific artists who explore themes of identity, culture, death and a sense of place in a contemporary context.

This immersive, thought-provoking exhibition examines how we relate, process, experience and communicate personal perspectives and histories.  Most audiences can relate to dealing with the loss of a loved one or a nostalgic longing for the past.  These works evoke a myriad of thoughts and emotions, such as happiness, sadness, and reflection.

A connection that underpins all of these artists is that their ancestors came across oceans. The title Oceans made from Sand draws attention to this journey, an experience that is shared by many, but is simultaneously personal and singular to each individual. Their cultural lineages act as references for greater explorations of their past, their present, and their future.’ Kara Wallace – Curator
