Geoffery Matautia’s First Solo Exhibition | Community Service: Family Portraits

What does service look like as a Pacific artist within your community? Upon rediscovering his own family portraits, Geoffery Matautia was reminded of the importance of capturing these moments, and the value Pacific people place on the documentation of their loved ones. To create this new series of work Geoffery utilised social media to reach out to his community. These are the portraits of the families that have participated so far.

This project was developed during Geoffery’s artist in residence for Te Tuhi’s artist development programme Papatūnga. Papatūnga is run by Edith Amituanai and James Tapsell-Kururangi.

“Community Service: Family Portraits” is Geoffery’s first solo exhibition.
