Ooshcon Masseurs and Jahra Wasasala aka CONJAH
CONJAH is a creative force of feeling, bleeding beyond the traditional boundaries of physical performance to create immersive worlds inhabited by compelling beings. Bringing together friends, artists, world-builders, theatre-makers, dancers, designers, and facilitators, CONJAH co-creates multidisciplinary theatre experiences with communities. Their work is in conversation with non-human phenomena, the body’s memory, cultural mapping, resistance, reimagined futures, and emotional rigour.
Ooshcon Masseurs Embedded in love and devoted to flow, ooshcon is a Samoan decipherer of circles who specialises in free-body methodologies. Grounded in the belief ina ia sosolo le alofa (so love may flow), his practice draws from Waving Dance culture, Krump Dance culture, Animation Dance, Geometric Dance, breath-work, and character-building. Through emotional rigour and innovative theatrical practices, he strives to support others in journeying into new personal depths and expanding their emotional content.
Jahra Wasasala (Macuata and Ba, Fiji) is a Fijian/Pākehā world-builder, movement psychopomp, and writer of realms. Their multidisciplinary practice centres embodied and disembodied phenomena, speaking into Indigenous future-mythos through a genre they describe as Oceanic Terror-fi. Working across performance, sound, adornment, poetry, sculpture, costume, and digital realms, Jahra's collaborative practice extends through CONJAH, their creative partnership with ooshcon. Together, their work has toured throughout Aotearoa and internationally across Australia, Hawai‘i, New York, Guåhan, Germany, and Canada.
Project Summary
BADVIBES Festival 2026 | Bangkok, Thailand
In October 2026, CONJAH (ooshcon and Jahra Wasasala) will participate in BADVIBES Festival in Bangkok, Thailand, following an invitation from festival directors Kevin and Saruda. As Thailand’s leading hip hop dance festival, BADVIBES brings together artists and communities from across the Asia-Pacific region through workshops, performances, panel discussions, and cultural exchange.
As part of the programme, CONJAH will present DARK!3, an excerpt from their contemporary theatre work DARK!DARK!DARK!, which premiered at Kia Mau Festival in 2025. The multidisciplinary performance dreams into known and speculative Tagata Moana lineages of darkness and storytelling, embodying a pantheon of forms that inhabit them as two performers push the boundaries of physical transformation.
Alongside the performance, CONJAH will contribute to panel discussions and facilitate workshops exploring contemporary theatre practice within hip hop dance communities. The opportunity will create space for artistic exchange, relationship-building, and shared learning, strengthening connections between Moana and Southeast Asian creative communities through storytelling, movement, and cultural practice.
